Family Fun Activities

Something for Parents & Kids
For a mountain getaway that pleases both parents and kids, there's no better place than Winter Park Resort and the Fraser Valley. From the terrific Adventure Junction - Children's Center and the best learning terrain in Colorado to in-town activities including tubing, ice skating, dog sled rides and anything else, Winter Park has what it takes to make the whole family smile!

Adventure Junction-Children's Center
Winter Park Resort has taught more Coloradoans to ski than any other resort and lots of them have been kids. Besides making sure that they are safe, learning new skills, and having fun, the ultimate goal is for instructors to help kids develop a lifelong love for their sport.

Located at the base of Winter Park, Adventure Junction-Children's Center is an all-inclusive facility. Childcare is offered for children 2 months - 5 years. And, the Kid's Daily Program gets the younger generation on the slopes with Winter Park's enthusiastic instructors who focus on learning, safety and fun.

Family Privates, offered through the Ski & Snowboard School, offer a unique experience for families to spend quality time on the slopes, for up to six members.

Exceptional Learning Terrain
Along with lessons and ski adventures, Winter Park offers plenty of kid- and family-friendly terrain. Groswold's Discovery Park, the resort's 25-acre beginner area, has twisting trails that keep youngsters so intent on what is around the next corner that they don't realize they are developing skills such as turning, proper stance and balance. Mount Maury and Sorensen Park, beginner areas at the base of the mountain, have magic carpets, similar to a moving sidewalk, to eliminate tiring uphill side-stepping.

New this season, kids can get their kicks and grins jibbing in the terrain garden in Discovery Park. With the addition of new rails and jumps in Jack Kendrick's terrain park, kids can learn basic skills and gain confidence on the smaller features before moving on to the full-size Rail Yard terrain park on Allan Phipps.

Front Range Programs
"Regulars" at the Children's Center can take advantage of the unique Kid's Lesson Season Pass. Kids get unlimited days of ski or snowboard lessons during the season including lift ticket, lesson, lunch and supervision. Not valid for Child Care.

Front Range kids 6-17 years old can participate in three multi-week programs. In the Park Barracudas program, skiers (6-17 years) and snowboarders (7-17) team up with the same instructor and group of ski/snowboard buddies for three consecutive weeks. The same coach teaches the eight-week Park Piranhas program, which introduces kids to alpine and freestyle techniques. Park Sharks is a 15-week program that focuses on developing skills across all areas.

The Ski Train, which departs from Union Station in Denver on select Saturdays and holidays during ski season, is a unique and breathtaking ride over and through (literally) the mountains to Winter Park Resort's base.

In-town Activities
For old-fashioned winter fun without strapping on skis, try a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the woods. Local outfitters also offer a selection of winter trail rides for all ages. Dog-sled rides are a downright exhilarating adventure.

To test balance and gliding skills, ice-skating at Cooper Creek Square or several other locations provides a good workout and rosy cheeks. Get out on Winter Park's numerous trails with snowshoes. Those who have mastered walking can easily learn how to snowshoe.

The Fraser Tubing Hill is a perennial favorite. With a smooth, slippery hillside for achieving top speeds, toe-curling thrills and dramatic spills are inevitable. For operating hours and pricing please call 970.726.5954.

For indoor fun, Snow Mountain Ranch/YMCA of the Rockies houses an indoor pool, climbing wall, roller-skating rink and basketball court.

Dining, munching, chowing, grazing, eating and nibbling are essential elements on the vacation landscape--for every family member. Kids revel in finding their favorite decorated dollar bill while munching on pizza at Hernando's Pizza Pub. Picky palates may find something delectable on Cajun-themed Fontenot's expanded children's menu.

A Few More Family Fun Facts
Mountain inns, which serve breakfast and dinner daily, are an interactive and budget-conscious lodging option. Kids can meet other kids over a jigsaw puzzle or board game and new friends can be made over meals in the dining room.

Kids 5 and under ski free at Winter Park Resort!

Ski for $10 all day on the Galloping Goose, a two-person lift that serves green terrain at the bottom of Mary Jane Mountain.
(the Galloping Goose lift only operates on weekends and holidays.)
